Source & Traceability
We choose mature roots of Scutellaria baicalensis of as least 3 years of age. The raw material is sorted very carefully to remove any parts that are hollow, mouldy or bug damaged. Three distinct grades serve different applications:
Conventional Extraction Grade is for 95% goods with routine quality control. High-Purity Refined Grade consists of pre-screened roots from genuine growing places, and is only for 98-99% requirements. Export Traceability Grade is fully documented from planting through processing and is manufactured on dedicated lines to avoid cross-contamination.
Quality screening starts at harvest. The roots are air-dried and kept in the dark to prevent the destruction of flavonoids. This methodical methodology provides consistent chemical profiles across production batches.

Solubility & Stability Profile
Baicalein is not readily soluble in water but is soluble in ethanol, methanol and acetone. For aqueous formulations we provide cyclodextrin-modified formulations which disperse swiftly in cold water without precipitation.
Thermal Stability: Recommended processing temperatures are below 65°C. Extended exposure beyond 80 °C leads to oxidation and activity loss.
pH Range: Optimal stability is from pH 4.0-7.2. Strong acids promote isomerisation .Alkaline environments promote degradation .
Light Sensitivity: The dry powder is stable in sealed, light-proof packaging for 24 months.
UV protection is required for aqueous solutions to prevent oxidative yellowing.

Manufacturing Process
Our production starts with raw material pre-treatment, where roots are cleaned, sliced and dried under controlled temperature before grinding to 20-30 mesh. Baicalin glycosides were extracted by ethanol reflux extraction and then concentrated at low temperature under vacuum to retain thermolabile chemicals.
The main conversion is a controlled acid hydrolysis that breaks the glycosidic linkages and converts baicalin to free baicalein. The solution is cooled crystallisation after neutralisation of pH. Gradient elution of macroporous resin adsorption to remove polysaccharides and pigments.
Recrystallisation is used to obtain the final purity: single-stage recrystallisation results in 95% purity, dual-stage recrystallisation in 98% purity, and numerous deep recrystallisations combined with preparative chromatography in 99% purity. The crystals are cleaned, centrifuged and vacuum dried below 65 °C to prevent oxidation. The final procedures involve grinding, sieving to the required mesh sizes and 3-dimensional mixing to achieve batch uniformity.
